Free & New - 19th Century Latin America
This was a tumultuous yet liberating time for Latin America. For many nations, this was their first taste of freedom from colonial Spain. Still, there were underlying political, hierarchal, and social tensions that defined the period.

2. Instability & Turmoil - 19th Century Spain
This was a deeply unstable time for Spain. Politically, the country was violently swinging back and forth between a monarchy and liberal reform Spain saw its colonies in Latin America space their hold, and was struggling with its own civil war. These themes were shown in the poetry of the time.
