José Joaquín Fernández de Lizardi
José Joaquín Fernández de Lizardi (1776-1827) was a writer credited as one of the fathers of the Mexican Enlightenment. His work was very influential, especially to the political climate at the time. He contributed heavily to shifting the mindsets of Mexicans that moved the towards independence. His work set a baseline for which modern Mexican literature and liberalism originated in Mexican works. Major themes in his work included social justice and a Mexican national identity.
